Over 30 years ago when we first opened, we advertised with slogans such as: "How to dress like a million on someone else's million" and "Shedding your clothes for fun and profit". Yes, it has always been fun and profitable to buy and sell at ReThreads even in the days when SAVING GREEN simply meant saving $$$. Now Save Green means so much more. By shopping at resale stores we can live lightly on this earth and save money at the same time. Each day, with every item consigned and purchased ReThreads customers and suppliers make another contribution towards keeping our earth green.

Most people don't imagine that buying a sweater or jacket at a resale store is a step toward a cleaner environment. With over a million tons of textiles discarded every year, even a slight reduction of waste makes a substantial difference. Textiles represent a difficult problem for all landfills because many man-made synthetics do not decompose. Textiles contain dyes and toxins that can settle into the aquifer.
A study conducted in Europe determined that if everyone in the United Kingdom were to purchase one used woolen garment each year, it would save an average of 371 million gallons of water and 480 tons of chemical dyes.
